Read more ► The hostel is in a great location with a friendly and helpful staff. It is very bare bones, however, which I wasn't quite expecting. We had a room with a private bath, but there was only a hand-towel-sized towel rack in it, so nowhere to hang wet towels; no wall lamp so the overhead light (which can be harsh after a long day) was the only lighting option, and nowhere to hang or put clothing except in suitcases on the floor. There was a shelf, but we needed that for toiletries since there wasn't a shelf in the bathroom for them. Our room was also never cleaned, even though we stayed for 7 nights, and the only time towels and bathmats were changed (once) was when we asked for them to be. Other than these comments, the room and the hostel as a whole was quiet and we liked the staff very much. I know it's a hostel, but I guess I was expecting something a little less austere. Homa a. 2011/04/27	We stayed for 4 nights at Somnio. The best thing about this hostel is definitely the staff. They were incredibly friendly and gave us excellent tips. I also really lked the location, close to Pl. de Catalunya. The rate was flat and there were no hidden fees involved. Also they had water, coffee, tea, and food available for purchase. The location couldn't be better. It was very close to everything going on, but on a safe side street off the strip without a big hostel sign letting everyone know you are a tourist. I don't have one complaint about the hostel and would recommend it for anyone travelling to Barcelona. As a female traveling alone for the first time, I agonized over where to stay. I finally settled on Somnio after reading many other positive reviews. I thought the location was ideal (I was able to walk to Sagrada Familia, but I was also able to walk to the sights at the Gothic quarter--the best of both worlds). The area also had lots of wonderful restaurants and I was never disappointed with the staff's recommendations. Along those lines, all of the staff members were extraordinarily pleasant--there was only one staff member that I felt was not so enthusiastic, and that was a shame because it deterred me from feeling comfortable asking questions that I wanted to ask. No big deal though. My room was quite comfortable and seemed to very clean (as did the bathrooms). My only complaint would be the lack of atmosphere--it wouldn't hurt to put even a cheap picture on the wall! As another traveler pointed out (and I do think it's important to note), this hostel was very quiet! I think I was okay with this trade off, because I really wanted to ensure that I felt 100 percent safe as a solo female traveler. That being said, it would have been nice to meet some people for a more social experience. I think this hostel could definitely do more in terms of organizing activities/group outings to find a common ground--especially because, although the receptionist said the hotel was almost booked to capacity, I rarely saw anyone else coming or going! From the airport El Prat - You can catch the blue Aerobus right outside the arrival terminals.  The ride is approximately 30 minutes.  Get off at the last stop, Plaça Catalunya.  You will be right outside of the department store El Corte Ingles.  With the store to your right, walk up Passeig de Gracia to Carrer de la Diputació.  Turn left, and walk across Rambla Catalunya to Somnio Hostel at Carrer de la Diputació 251, on your right side.  It's just past the Banesto bank.  There is no large sign outside, as we are on the second floor.  The door buzzer says "SOMNIO". A taxi from the airport will cost approximately 25 euros.  A taxi from the airport will cost approximately 25 euros.
Girona - Ryan Air has buses from the Girona Airport to Estació Nord in Barcelona.  From there, catch the metro from the stop Arc de Triomph to Plaça Catalunya. 

From the train station Estació Sants - Take the Green L3 line to Plaça Catalunya.  Exit to Rambla Catalunya and walk away from the Plaça up Rambla Catalunya to Carrer de la Diputació. Turn left, and Somnio Hostel will be on your right side at Carrer de la Diputació 251.
Estació de Franca - Take the Yellow L3 line to Passeig de Gracia.  Exit at Carrer de la Diputació.  With Passeig de Gracia on your right, turn left. Walk across Rambla Catalunya to Somnio Hostel at Carrer de la Diputació 251, on your right side.  It's just past the Banesto bank.  There is no large sign outside, as we are on the second floor.  The door buzzer says "SOMNIO".
