Mapamundo is a great place, especially if you are looking for a private room. The rooms seem very roomy and there is a nice kitchen as well. It can be a little loud at night, but they provide free earplugs! The staff is incredibly nice.

Location is amazing. The only downside was that our room was at the top of the building, 5 floors to go without elevator. Nice host. A bit noisy on weekend (there is a pub close), but not a big problem with earplugs. Will stay there again!

Excellent location! Very central and close to the main attractions! On arrival, the host gave us loads of tips and advice on what to see and where to go which we found extremely useful.
We would highly recommend this place.

The best part of staying here is the ability to cook! The kitchen is pretty well stocked, and if you head to the Boqueria you can cook up quite a feast and save money on dining out.
The room was large, but it lacked heat. Which may not be such a big deal during warmer weather outside, but when we were there, it was raining and cold outside. So when we came in to dry off, well it was always cold. The bed was comfortable.
To turn on the hot water, there is a loud generator you must turn on. In consideration of the other people who are staying in the apartment it is essential to coordinate schedules as potentially seven people will be sharing the bathroom.
The apartments are on two levels and are at least three flights of stairs, which is fine if you are traveling light. While it is within short walking distance to major attractions, it faces a bar that let's just say the patrons aren't really respectful of the neighbors around. It is very loud until the wee hours of the morning (even during the week!), so bring some silicone ear plugs which will help out some.
The guy who checked us in was nice and explained the area. But we never had our towels replenished after two days, which normally would not have been a problem but the towels never dried completely because the room was always cold.
You must pay in cash at check in.

very close to the main subway line. staff were very helpful. sharing 1 bathroom amongst people staying in 4 separate rooms however is a bit of a stretch. there were several times when i or others had to wait to use the restroom.

being there before the seasons mean that its freaking cold - when we asked for extra blankets they say they can show us where we can buy one. wouldn't stay there again

I would definitely recommend this place for spring, fall or summer, but you may want to bring warm pyjamas for winter as there is no heating in the flat.

Mapamundo Guesthouse
Arriving to MAPAMUNDO is quite easy!!!
Arriving from Barcelona airport:
Bus:
When getting out of the Airport of Barcelona we recommend you to take a blue bus called " AEROBUS" to Plaza Catalunya. This bus connects the Airport to the city and it is the easiest way to arrive. It is about 4 euros but it leaves you in the city center of Barcelona. You have to get off the bus in Plaza Catalunya. ( this is the terminus)
In Plaza Catalunya you have to take a metro.
The metro you have to take is the Metro Line 3 (the Green line) with direction to "Zona Universitaria". Once you will be in the metro Direction Zona Universitaria, you will pass metro station Liceu and the next one is Drassanes. You have to get off in 'Drassanes' Station.
Just in front of the exit of the station, there is the Carrer de Josep Anselm Clave Street.
This street is on your left; This means when you are on the Ramblas, with Plaza Catalunya in your back and Maremagnum in front of you, it is on the left. You have to follow this Anselm clave Street. This street changes of name to Carrer Ample.
When you are walking in Carrer Ample and arrive at the corner with Carrer d'Avinyó make your left, the second street will be Carrer de Milans. Continues to the end and turn right into the small plaza round. You'll find the number 4 a half block to your right hand, and ring the 'ppal 3a'.
Train:
Every 30 minutes a train leaves from the airport. Take the train and get off in Barcelona Sants Station, then you have to take the Metro, Line 3 (green line) with direction to Canyelles and get off in the 'Drassanes' Station. Once you are in Drassanes please follow explanations above.
Arriving from Girona Airport :
Take the Bus to Barcelona until Estacio Nord. In front there is a Metro Station. You have to Take Line 1(Red Line ) with direction to Hospital de Bellvitge. You have to get off in Plaza Catalunya. Change to Line 3 (the green line ) with direction to Zona Universitaria. You pass Liceu metro station and get off in Drassanes. Once you are in Drassanes please follow explanations above.
