They have the best bar, the best atmosphere and a very well run hostel. The staff is friendly and relaxed and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The Bulldog is the only place I stay when traveling to Amsterdam!

We had a problem where our Gomio booking price and confirmation didn't match with their prices and they asked us to pay more. The guy behind the counter wasn't at all empathetic and was really rude about it. Spoke to the manager the next day who agreed we wouldn't pay more but like the guy before, was generally an as*. They wouldn't take split bills like every other hostel I stayed at during my time in Europe. So much noise coming from outside at night. Find a smaller, friendlier hostel elsewhere. The wifi didn't work for the entire time we were there. The computers are expensive, can't put memory cards to upload photos, rubber keyboards.. terrible. The one positive, the location. The only thing I would say is don't book through Gomio, call the hotel, as the site portal had the wrong price listed for my stay, I was confronted with an extra 34 Euro charge for the total stay. Fortunately after a polite exchange with the manager he met me in the middle so I just ended up with an additional 17 euro charge. He wasn't happy with Gomio either. He said the Bulldog would have its own booking system from its site soon and not a redirection to the Gomio portal. Read less ▲

Close to the Central Station & the Dom Square. just in the city center of Amsterdam. And for sure in the middle of Red Light District which is quite safe btw.

The showers were hot, toilets were clean, bedding was clean, and bunks were comfortable. Cannot wait to come back in a few months!

Directions The Bulldog Hotel

From the airport:
From the main entrance of the airport the escalators take you down to the platforms. Make sure you are on the right one. It will be quite a shock arriving in Rotterdam or The Hague if you expect to see our beautiful Amsterdam! A ticket is 3.10 Euro (are sold in the main entrance) and the ride takes a mere 20 minutes.

From the railway station:
If you walk out of the railway station you head straight ahead into the broad busy Damrak. After a few hundred metres you hit the Dam square with the Palace on your right and our typically shaped (!) democracy monument.

You take a left turn keeping the Krasnapolsky hotel on your left. At the first canal you take a left and you will see our Bulldog sign hanging out.

It will take you 10 minutes to walk from the railway station

From Amstel bus station:
You take the subway to central station but get off one stop before at “Nieuwmarkt”. Take the “Oude Hoogstraat” exit. When you get up the stairs you turn left into a small nice looking street. From there you turn right at the third canal and you will see the first Bulldog sign hanging out.

This will take you less than half an hour.

If you intend to take trams and subways while in Amsterdam you will be better off buying a “strippen-kaart” instead of a one-way ticket. They are for sale at the Amstel station. Make sure you have a ticket before boarding the subway or practice the ignorant tourist act. (No idea if people still get away with this but at least you will have your own unique experience)
