The hostel is correct, of course it is a little old and not really decorated (a part for the bathroom floors!! really nice).
For me the location AND the terrasse behind the bar is the best part ! Right in the middle of the town but still the terrasse is quiet and perfect for evenings chill-out!
Staff was nice and smiling :)

The only bad thing is the security because there is no lockcer and only one room per dorm if you don't want to pay the deposit .
BUT FREE WIFI !
Thank you Globe centre!

Actually, the place was not too bad. A bit lacking in security, but they are sure to tell you everything is at your own risk... problem was that even the lockers were in danger, so ANYTHING valuable had to be left and retrieved every time you went home with the reception... but at least they let you do that.

I found the day staff to be very cool and nice and friendly, but they (Like us) found their employers to be too tight fisted to count as a reasonable place. It's just a bed I suppose with a shower (which were all decent facilities) but the only soap they offered (which there was none in the shared bathrooms - even at the bar!) was washing-up liquid.. or nothing.
The NIGHT staff however.. oh my god! What an ...(think of a nasty word and add 'complete' or 'total' before it). Apparently the owners hired someone with an attitude problem to begin with to prevent any unnecessary enjoyment or need for assistance.. cos you WON'T get any. The owners themselves seem ok, but only if you stay within the rules and don't ask too many questions.
LIke everywhere in Amsterdam, the coffee/food was pretty expensive.
For a cheap place to stay with no frills and limited security, it's ok.
Good luck

Using Amsterdam Centraal Station as a beginning, walk out the front entrance and head in the direction of 10 o'clock, towards the church tower and flags 150m away.
To the right of the NH Hotel Barbizon, walk down Nieuwe Brugsteeg and take the second right down Sint Olofsteeg.
You will come out onto a canal (Oudezijds Voorburgwal) where you can see Hostel The Globe situated directly on the left side across the first bridge. (You'll see a big blue sign saying SKY SPORTS and THE GLOBE)!
