I can't explain how great it was as soon as I stepped in. I thought I was in for a long trip when we got there and the reservation from GOMIO had not gotten through to The Yellow, but the staff saw my confirmation email and immediately began working.
Within 10 minutes, he had gotten me connected with the sister hotel across the street, set me and my traveling mate up with a new two person hotel room, and offered us a round of drinks at the bar. All for the same price that we had agreed to pay for The Yellow. I would have been perfectly fine if he had just looked me in the eyes and said he was sorry, which he did, because he had no control over the GOMIO goof. But he and the hotel across the street bent over backwards to make our stay fantastic.
The breakfast that is included was great, the staff was fun, drinks at The Yellow bar are reasonable, there's great sit-down food at very good prices across the street, a pizza place is open late not 100 meters down the street, you're 4 blocks from the Termini station, and they have FANTASTIC guided tours scheduled for you to join up with. I really couldn't think to ask for more out of the hostel except WiFi in the rooms. You have to go down to the lobby to use it, but that's not really such a bad thing. They make you be social at a hostel - gasp!
In all seriousness, if you'll be in Rome and need a hostel - snag The Yellow if you can. And be sure to take the walking tour with Justin. He's a fantastic tour guide. The three and a half hour tour seems daunting, but it was very easy to keep up with, even for my short-legged mate. Plenty of stops and jokes throughout. He'll make Rome 'BADASS' for you.
