The village of Salakos , is built at the foot of Mt Prophetes Elias at an altitude of 290 meters and it is located 39 km far from the city of Rhodes . It occupies an area of 47.400 acres and is inhabited by 581 people. Both the well - known spring "Nymph", located in this area, and the valley constitute a very important living - area for a particular species of butterfly "Kallimorpha" the same species we can find at the Valley of butterflies in the village of Theologos . The village was named after a landowner "Salakos" who was a sovereign in this area. In this village one can see almost everywhere foundations, Greek tombs and Byzantine churches - all in ruins mainly as a cause of the passing of time.Traditional guest house "Nymph" one of the older lodgings of Rhodes .
