ABOUT SPLIT

Split is the second biggest city of Croatia and the biggest in Dalmatia. Split has almost 200,000 inhabitants and about 400.000 people living in the nearby region. UNESCO labeled the town (it is more than 1700 years old) as a World Heritage sight. Diocletian's Palace is situated in the town.
Split lies on the peninsula Marjan. It has a beautiful historic district, which is located on the southern seaside of Marjan.

In the old town you may visit the Cathedral of Sveti Duje (Saint Duje), which in old times was the Diocletian mausoleum. You'll have a good view from its tower. The Podrumi (cellars) are a partly very high network of hallways beneath the Diocletian Palace.
Directly at the harbour there is the Riva, the promenade, which is the well-known landmark of the city.

DAY TRIPS:
* Salona is an old Romanian settlement with an arena is nearby.
* Trogir, which isn't too far away, might be also of interest for the ones, who are seeking culture.
