Read more ► Maybe I'm being a bit carried away because during my stay at Ruthensteiner I met incredibly cool people and had fun like never before in a hostel, but the place is actually great. The room where I stayed was leaning on an inner courtyard so that it was super quiet, you can use free lockers (in the room), the bar is incredibly lively - musical instruments such as piano, guitar and ukulele are available - and it closes at 11.30 so that you won't really mind if you don't feel like partying. Staff is helpful and always wears a smile, location is excellent, great value for money.. in a few words, Ruthensteiner is THE place to stay in Vienna!!! It had a great atmosphere especially during happy hour at the bar nice 2 Euro beers & lovely outdoor garden areas and a really well equipt kitchen which makes all the difference. Chin Man o. 2009/07/01	Really a five-star hostel in Vienna or even in the whole Europe. Well-equipped, nice staff, good location, secure and clean. However, it is a bit unconvenient to walk across the road for kitchen, internet and laundry, especially in rainy day. Dave m. 2009/06/26	This is one of the best I've stayed at. The hostel is very well managed, the facilities are excellent and it draws a very friendly crowd. Hostel Ruthensteiner
Getting There From Westbahnhof (west train station) -just a 3-minute walk!

From the upper floor (where the train platforms are), exit to your right, down the stairs and straight out the door (left of the Post Office).  This will bring you out to the main street (the Mariahilferstrasse).  Turn right on the Mariahilferstrasse, take your second left onto Haidmannsgasse and your first right onto Robert Hamerlinggasse.  We are the 3rd house down on the right at #24!


From Südbahnhof (south train station)

Take tram # 18 to the "Westbahnhof" Train Station.  When you get off the tram, face the station.  Walk straight ahead on the main street (Mariahilferstrasse) running along the left side of the station.  (Make sure you have the station on your right hand).  Take the second left onto Haidmannsgasse and the first right onto Robert Hamerlinggasse.


From the airport

There is a shuttle-bus to the Westbahnhof every 30 minutes on the 1/2 hour between 5:30 A.M. and 11 P.M.

By car

Coming from the West Autobahn (A1): follow the signs to the city centre until you reach the Schönbrunn Castle (a large beautiful yellow building that will be on your right after an underpass).
Directly opposite the castle turn left, follow the street until the second traffic light and turn right onto Mariahilferstrasse.  At house # 151 turn right onto Haidmannsgasse. Robert Hamerlinggasse is the first street down on the right, but because it is a one-way street, you will need to go to the second right and go around the block (right, right, and right again!) Welcome!

Coming from the south, east or north: 

Look for signs saying "Guertel" and follow the directions to the Westbahnhof Station.  From there, drive the Mariahilferstrasse away from the City Center and follow the above directions.
