About the EHC and the European Hostel Meeting

As the hostel infrastructure in Europe has grown the European Hostel Cooperation (EHC) was founded in order to meet the need for a hostel organisation that provides a network for the scene. The EHC is open to any hostel, and operates on a principle of cooperation to achieve the following:

  • an impartial, independent institution that represents hostels to third parties
  • a marketing tool for the low budget travel industry
  • an information network between hostels in Europe
  • a service provider for hostels (such as software, knowledge-exchange)
  • an independent portal for low budget travelers, functioning as both an information resource and a booking tool GOMIO.COM
  • an annual European hostel meeting

In the last four years the EHC has organized hostel meetings in Rome (2004), Prague (2005), Krakow (2006) and Interlaken (2007). The locations for the meetings, from a theatre in the heart of Rome to a Japanese arts center in Krakow, via a monastery in Prague and the Casino in Interlaken have been as varied as the issues and topics discussed. Alongside the meetings themselves, the Saturday evening Parties have become famous in their own right, taking place in as diverse locations as a Roman campsite, a Prague art gallery, an underground Krakow nightclub, and a climbing hall in Interlaken.

The EHC Hostel Meeting pages give an overview of all the different topics covered, as well as presentation downloads and photographs from the different events. The pages for the last three events can be found here:
