The European Hostel Cooperation is calling all members to the MovingSlowly Challenge!!

It’s time for the European hostel industry to demonstrate the passion of travel & the motivation behind why we do what we do in this travel world!
MovingSlowly is gearing up to get back on the road. Packing up the bright green Citroen, affectionately dubbed “Mehari”, Massimo & Fabio will again be bringing their philosophy of interactive travel & humanitarian actions to the South American continent. Starting in Argentina and driving across the continent the boys & their car will again stop along the way where needs arise, finishing in Los Angeles. The European Hostel Cooperation will join for the ride!
Not Familiar with Moving Slowly?
2005: Massimo & Fabio, co-owners of the Home Hostels, Spain, hostel group, & members of the European Hostel Cooperation, set out from Valencia to drive across the African continent in a brightly painted Citroen.
- The purpose of this trip was two fold:
- Get back to the real roots of travel – breaking the bubble of the backpacker world and truly interacting & affecting with their surroundings.
- Humanitarian actions – all money raised through sponsorship, t-shirt sales & donations were put directly into actions along the way. Fabio & Massimo paid all trip costs & all t-shirt production costs so as to guarantee all monies go directly to the projects needed.
Along the way from Valencia – South Africa the Movingslowly project was able to provide chairs for classrooms, water for orphanages, clothing/toys for those they met etc. Their purpose is not to change the world – but to affect it where they can as they continue on their travels.
The EHC/MovingSlowly CHALLENGE!!!
The EHC is proud to work with independently owned hostels – small/medium & large business owners who have entered an industry that actively encourages young & old to break out of their bubble & experience new cultures. New experiences break stereotypes and lay the way to a more enlightened generation of leaders. Africa may seem a far way from Europe, but in this global age where the world shrinks daily – replacing ignorance with action is what sets this industry apart from every other.
How You as an EHC Member Can Start the Global Movement...
October 2007: the boys’ will again be loading up Mehari the bright green Citroen and shipping it to Argentina. From here they will drive upwards through South America – again stopping wherever they see local needs.
The EHC as a proud sponsor of the MovingSlowly project is currently raising funds to make sure all needs are met along the way.
THE GOAL: 5,000 EUR
On September 10th, the EHC plan to hand over a check of 5,000 EUR to Fabio & Massimo. All expenditure of these funds will be documented on movingslowly.com as well as this page. With over 1100 members of the EHC to date, we are confident this industry can step up to the challenge!
SOOOO – What Are You Waiting For?
Ready for the challenge? Click here to register your donation – something small as 10 EUR provides soccer balls to children in orphanages struggling to smile day by day... 500 EUR makes sure they have clean water for the near future...
