San Fermin – More than the Running of the Bulls

Get ready to get wild. We’ve all heard about the glorious event that is the running of the bulls. Thousands of tourists being chased down little Spanish streets by a parade of bulls. But the running of the bulls is only one component of a much bigger festival: San Fermín.

Festivities commence with the Chupinazo, one hell of an opening ceremony. This is one event you don’t want to miss. The Chupinazo involves the setting off of a pyrotechnic firecracker at noon on the 6th of July from the town hall. From then on in, there are insane street parties all day and all night for the rest of the festival. The entire city of Pamplona is taken over with drinking, dancing, concerts, parades, rides and fireworks. The biggest party you’ve yet to witness, with bars open all night and non-stop festivities. Ain’t no rest for the wicked, as they say.

As if this doesn’t sound enticing enough, Stoke Travel are attempting to set a record for the world’s biggest nudie run. On the first day of festivities, hundreds of people will strip off and do a quick circuit from Bar Zuhaitsu (renamed Stoke Bar during the festival) to the town hall and back. If you’re not sure you’ll have the balls (haha), not to worry. Unlimited beer and sangria from the bar all day for everyone who does the run! Nothing like a cup of liquid courage.
After nine days of intense partying, festivities end at midnight on the 14th with a song called ‘Pobre de mí’. In English this translates to ‘poor me’, referring to the fact that San Fermín is over. If this doesn’t convey how great the festival is, I don’t know what will. The Spanish waste no time, and the countdown until next year’s festival begins!
Not sure where to stay during the festival? Experience San Fermín in true style by camping with Stoke at their all-inclusive campsite. Your tent will already be erected and all set up with air mattresses and sleeping bags. Not to mention a big breakfast and hearty dinner cooked by the onsite chef. Throw in unlimited beer and sangria at the Stoke Bar and you’ve got yourself the best accommodation for San Fermin!
