It’s summertime and “the weather is high,” as Mungo Jerry said. And one of the biggest things going through everybody’s mind is probably some iteration of the first few lines of Nicky Minaj’s Starships, “Let’s go to the beach!”
The olympics have been good to Barcelona, helping it rejuvenate itself and becoming one of the top visited places in the world, restructuring the city and giving it new touristic life. But do you know what else the Olympics gave Barcelona? Barceloneta! Before the olympics Barcelona only had one tiny beach, but now it has over four Kilometers of beach. You could say that the beaches in Barcelona are only as old as some of the backpackers that frequent our hostels.
For the beach goer in Barcelona there are plenty of hostels that will situate you in an a great place right next to the Barceloneta and consequently right next to the action. Here we have a couple of our favorites.

So, you get to the Beach at Barceloneta. What do you do? Well if you’re one of those that likes to absorb some excess UV rays you can lay out and catch some. If you aren’t
into that and your excursions to the beach don’t stop where the sand ends then the water is perfect for a swim, depending on the waves you can have a great time kitesurfing, paddle surfing, or snorkeling, all of which are available to rent along the beach at the different maritime shops.
Don’t like sun? Allergic to water? Then
don’t fear because Barceloneta is well known as a fun social spot for late night
meet ups. On the night of the twenty third of June throughout Cataluña they celebrate the eve of Saint Juan. On this night you can find plenty of people having a blast on the beach shooting fireworks and partying around the bonfires until the sun comes up. There are also full moon parties for those who like to enjoy the beach by the light of the full moon. And the activities don’t stop there. You can often find free movie showings on the beach.
Singing and Dancing in the Forum
The Forum is a cultural center located on the northern end of the Barcelona Beaches. Barcelona is well known for it’s music scene and many popular concert series come here to perform. One of the best known independent music festivals is Primavera Sound. The festival runs for about five days and in 2017 will be running from May 31
to June 4 and it brings artists and fans from all over the world.
Cruilla is another extremely popular music festival of diverse tastes that one can see in the Forum this summer. Cruilla is a festival where the lineup and artists are all chosen by the fans and those attending.
Both festivals tend to be right after one another so if you want to spend a summer on beach and music then Barcelona is wonderful option for you.
Barcelona is one of the only major European cities with this much beach! And it’s only fifteen minutes from the historical center of Barcelona.
