4. Take the Metro – Public Transport

the Metro! Most locals move around the city by metro. The public transport in Paris is most of the time full, so don’t be surprised if you have to stand up. Sometimes the Parisian metro is that packed that people can’t even exit or enter the metro. Make sure you are close to the exit if you are close to your final metro station.

5. Eiffel Tower by night

The lightshow of the Eiffel Tower during the night is beautiful, and you should not miss it. We from Gomio recommend you to check out this light show at the end of the show itself – but do not be too late. This way all the tourists already left because they took their photos and moved on. There will be almost, and with some luck, nobody anymore admiring this illuminations. This is good to know, right?! 6. Have a wine at the River of Seine

It’s free, it’s warm, and it’s a local thing to do. Check out a nice place at the river of Seine and have a wine. We know we already recommended drinking some wine in front of the Eiffel Tower. Just do not finish your bottle and walk on to the River of Seine. Drinking wine and sitting outside at the banks of the river is the local thing to do in Paris. Don’t miss this! 7. Sacre Coer

The entrance of Sacre Coer is free and you will be right around the corner of the neighborhood of Montmartre (Tip #8). From this famous building you will have also a very beautiful view all over Paris. Just make sure you do not let any of those street sellers betray you, you should just walk on and ignore them before falling into any scam.

8. Montmarte Quarter

Just on the left side of Sacre Coer you will enter the neighborhood of Montmartre. This is the artistic and bohemian center of Paris. The neighborhood Montmartre offers many small cafés, bars, galleries, and art. Take your time and walk slowly through it. No rush! Have a look for some small, narrowed streets to find some local café with fewer tourists. But be aware that a coffee in Paris is always expensive (around 2€ for an Espresso/ small café). And if you are not traveling on budget and have some more time, here you can get a beautiful painting of yourself made by street artists. Such a painting costs around 20€ and takes around 30 minutes.

9. Jardin du Luxembourg

This Park is a big garden right in the city center. Here local people are playing boule, also known as pétanque. This is a traditional and popular game especially in France, Italy, Malta, and Croatia.

10. Have the best Crepes in Paris

Not free, but maybe the best money you will spend here is having Crepes at “Au P’tit Grec”, just 20 meters from Young and Happy Hostel. This Crepes costs just 3,50€ (2014), and it’s huge! Get one and you won’t be hungry anymore! Important to know: There is usually a waiting queue. You may have to wait for 20 minutes to get a Crepes, but we assure you: It’s worth it and the best crepes in the entire city!
